An Introduction

Okay, so you might be wondering, well a lot probably? Or maybe not that much, considering that I have only posted one time so far, but I know that from my perspective, when I go to the blogs I follow (make sure to check them out on the left side) I want to get a glimpse into who that lovely blogger really truly is. Now as for my blog, there are multiple ways to do this, I could have a post consisting wholy of  Q&A questions I think you lovely readers might be wondering or want to ask me, or I could simply have a second post steryotypical of any other up and coming blogger. However, I prefer to be unordinary, different, and well, approach thing from a new side (not that this will prove to be that different from other starting bloggers). But needless to say here it goes, or at least my best shot!!!
I guess that I should start with the "WHAT", for my blog, what first inspired me in wanting to start a blog. It was probably two years ago that I happened to stumble onto this amazing website called Modcloth (http://www.modcloth.com/), you might have heard of it? Well lo and behold I realized how utterly FABULOUS this company was and how much I had been missing in the way of their wonderful clothes and inspiration for the vintage soul :) For those of you who are Modcloth fans you are probably asking "What was your life like without Modcloth???" :):) Honestly, Modcloth opened me up to becoming obsessed with living a vintage lifestyle and also lead me to discover some of my favorite bloggers who inspired me to start on this path (though it has taken me two years to get here). I remember when I first happened upon Modcloth, they were currently at the time participating in something called "Blogger of The Moment", in which they featured a new personal fashion blogger each moth. That blogger was given a special post on Modcloth's blog as well as having a dress designed and named after them!!! It just so happened that the "Blogger of The Moment" at the time was the lovely Kate from All This Happiness (http://www.allthishappiness.blogspot.com/), whose blog I absolutely adore. Once I visited her blog I fell in love with the idea of becoming a fashion blogger (and for awhile it was my dream to become a "Blogger of The Moment" one day). Then I discovered Ashley Ording with her blog Fancy Fine  (http://www.ashleyording.com/), which is another one of my favorites. This summer I emailed her with some questions about starting my blog. It was such a treat to hear her suggestions. She gave me some great advice on starting my blog, as well as helping me decide which blog name to settle on, so you might say that the birth of Minnie Muse was partly thanks to her:).
Ever since that day two years ago, my life hasn't been the same!

Now, for the "WHY". Well, I LOVE fashion, especially Vintage, and I LOVE to write!!! So what better way for me to pursue two of the things I love than to start a vintage fashion blog to express my love and passion for vintage and share that love with you lovely readers! I have learned so much over these year about the world of vintage in the 21st century, and that is what I want to share. I believe that it is our duty as "vintage souls" to inspire each other in our way of dressing, to share with one another what eras we love, where we find our treasures, and what makes us continuously wake up every day ready to step into an ensemble that makes us feel like we could do anything!!

While each of us might think that we are just plain old ordinary, or even believe that we are simply another "Average Jane", we all have the ability to be EXTRAordinary!!! So seize that power, let it inspire you to be the true you! Live every day with joy and a since of adventure knowing that you are the true you, and that when people see the way you dress, though they may think it to be a bit "odd", they know that you are someone who is confident in who they are!!! Let what you love inspire you to live a life you love!

P.S. Leave a comment and let me know what you thought about this post, as well as any ideas you have for future posts, or questions you would like me to ask me or have me answer. Oh, and make sure to check out Kate's lovely blog All This Happiness, and Ashley's blog Fancy Fine.

The Musings of It All

The Musings of It All

Typewriter- Grandmothers (Granny Minnie's)
Don't you just wish every day that you could open a door and step back in time? I am constantly wishing this every single second of the day. That is probably because I am an old fashioned girl at heart and ever since I was little  I wished that I could live in the time periods of all my favorite stories. However, here I am, caught in the 21st century of short shorts, tight tops, dresses that honestly could be considered a top, skirts that will never allow you to bend over, and clothes that have no story or adventure associated with them. I might as well come out and be honest that I have a high standard of modesty. Nevertheless, that is not why I choose to wear vintage or invintaged (modern clothes with a vintage style). I am a daydreamer. I love stories (especially fairy tales) and I love adventures. All in all I am a right brain creative person who never stops contemplating stories and scenarios in my head. I think this is one of the reasons I dress the way I do? Wearing vintage, I never know where those clothes have been, who they belonged to, or what adventures they have been on. I feel that when I step into a piece from a different era I am stepping back in history and into a garment that has the ability to take me on adventures. Nevertheless, I do have to say that there is one defining inspiration and Muse for it all. My Granny Minnie (my Dad's Mom).

When I was younger I discovered that my Granny Minnie never got rid of anything, and that she had storage sheds full of old clothes, furniture, and knickknacks. Now, at that young age I loved to go treasure searching in all of the sheds, but I never really paid attention to all of the overabundance of old clothes. While I would sometimes take a piece here and there for dress up, I never thought they were that special until I was older and realized all of the years I had missed of wearing my grandmothers treasures. Thus began the process of collecting trash bags full of clothes every time I went up to my dads home town, bringing them home and tending to their delicate needs of refurbishing, mending, and emergency attention. However, after a number of treasure searching adventures I amassed a reasonable collection of my grandmothers (and some of my aunt's) old clothes to wear on a regular basis.
If you are anything like me, you know that when people see a "vintage soul" they are apt to stare at the strange creature before them who defies the trends of fashion around them. That is another reason I LOVE to wear vintage and dress old fashioned. I like to be different. I have never been about blending in. I am all about standing out as who you are. I want people to see me and let my clothes speak for themselves as to the person that I truly am. The best days are when people stop me at school or work and ask "Do you always dress like this?" and I am able to reply "Yes, every day." Then sometimes they might continue and ask "Where do you find your clothes or do you make them?" to which I happily reply "I do make some of them, but  most of them are thrifted or my grandmothers." Ti's the life of the old fashioned!

Now, I must say that apart from the generous supply of clothes supplied by my Granny Minnie, I do dearly love to go thrift shopping. Sometimes I might love it a little to much as I am known to get very excited and sometimes start squealing when I find an amazing treasure or bargain. Then if I happen to try it on I might just start dancing around the dressing room in ecstatic joy at my marvelous find! I am a collector of clothes, shoes, hats, sunglasses, and purses, as most every "vintage soul" is apt to be. I mean, I started out with a regular two row closet and had to add two more clothing racks to house my treasures:) I practically live in my closet (though I do have a small room). My mom always gets overwhelmed when she comes into my room, but I just smile and look on in amusement. However, as a vintage enthusiast one can not get rid of pieces all that often, for they are one of a kind rare treasures, each special in their own way and come with a story of their heritage.

Minnie Muse, was inspired by my Granny Minnie, who if it were not for her storage shed treasures, I would have never been inspired to wear vintage. Thanks to her clothes and her own inspirational style, and ere of always looking fabulous in the 40's and 50's, am I the Vintage lover I am today. Though she is no longer with us, she will always live on in the clothes I wear and in the vintage world I live in. So here's to a new chapter in my book and the starts to a grand new adventure in the "Terrifical" world of VINTAGE! This is the "Musings" of it all.
